West Virginia S3DA Archer Signs with Collegiate Archery Program
Parker Crum, son of Mike and Marie Crum of Whipple, Ohio, is a senior at Fort Frye High School in Beverly, Ohio, and a member of the Big Reds Archery Team in Parkersburg, West Virginia, under the coaching of Jim Parsons. His dedication to the sport of archery has earned him a place on the Muskingum University Archery Team, where he plans to study Business Administration.
In addition to archery, Parker is a member of his school’s National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. Parker participates in the S3DA program along with the International Bowhunter’s Organization (IBO) and the Archery Shooter’s Association (ASA) at the state and national levels. Parker is fond of shooting S3DA events as they allow him to meet and interact with other archers who share his same passion for the sport. He enjoys the fun, friendly, family atmosphere of the S3DA events. Parker said that archery has provided him and his family with a lot of opportunities. He never knew that picking up a bow and deciding to shoot would allow him to travel and see so many different parts of the country along with helping him receive his education.
Parker is not only a talented archer, but he is also an active member of his community. Community service is an integral part of his team membership. Parker is an altar server at the Basilica of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta, where he mentors the younger servers. He has volunteered at the local humane society, assisted with church-grounds clean-up day, rang bells for the Salvation Army, and helped with range clean-up at Mountain State Sportsman Club. In March 2023, Parker, along with the rest of the Big Reds Archery Team, was honored at the West Virginia State Capital for their outstanding accomplishments in archery.
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
